Life, the Universe, and Lighting.

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 26, 2009, 6:23 PM

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Kind of in a post-food daze, right now, so excuse any insanity...

So, the musical is over! Sort of bittersweet -- I'm happy in that I don't spend upwards of 30 hours a week in the theater and that I can actually sleep. On the other hand, I do miss the insanity and the fun of designing and seeing my work in action. You can see photos of the show (and my lights :D here. I particularly like this one. :spotlight-left: :spotlight-right: :spotlight-left: :spotlight-right: :spotlight-left: But luckily we have the one-acts for Drama Festival to start. We're doing Tom Jones which should be interesting. The technical director wants a TON of specials, but I'm not really sure how to set that up... I don't know, we'll see.

As for the art: I'm really only drawing in class, but at least I'm drawing more. My Moleskine has seen some more use, which is good!

I'm excited to take a computer-aided drafting and design course at school this coming semester -- we'll see how that goes. I already do some light plot drafting with Vectorworks (as you can see here), so hopefully that will give me a head start. I see it as an art, though, so I'm very excited.

Also hoping to get an engineering internship this summer, which is superduper exciting :B I hope it pulls through -- I'm just waiting for them to publish their stupid application packet... >.<

Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell, if you care to know :D

Molly you can paint on leather with Acrylic. We used to paint cowhides with portraits of Indians and famous Cowboys. We also painted whole western Scenes on a Complete Cowhide that was stretched to make a workable canvas and painted on both sides. We is Barb (Granny my first art boss) and you can see our work at [link] You can also use oils and Alkyds on Cowhide. I've never painted on a finished leather shoe however so you will have to experiment with old shoes. Happy Painting...Annie
:iconshoesbymolly:
Yeah, I've heard of using acetate to remove the finish on the shoes -- otherwise it cracks and peels.

You are the shoe girl. :) I love your art shoes!!!! I've been meaning to talk to you. I read what you use on the canvas shoes, and I was thinking you can get Permanent colored Sharpies that you could draw and paint with, and they won't come off in the wash. Plus they come in terrific number of colors if you buy the big pack at Costco, and at Cosco they are cheap. I don't know where yu live, but they are cheapest at Cosco but can be bought individually at Art stores and Office Supply stores. The other way to make your shoes permanent would be to paint the colored part in acrylic, and then line the art with Permanent sharpie markers. I know the Acrylic and Sharpies are super permanent because I washed all those banners on my site in the washingmachine with bleach to kill some mildew. They came out perfect except the first one, because I didn't put the aggitating setting to slow or gentle. Thanks for visiting my site, and I love what you do to shoes. Come visit again, and if you ever need any help with an art project let me know, for I am 60 years old and always willing to share knowledge with young people. Sincerely Annie

I'm the "shoe girl"? :D Yay! And thank you so much, I'm so glad you like them!

Yes, I already draw the lines with permanent pen and paint with acrylic, so I'm pretty sure they're permanent. If I find a good deal on Sharpies somewhere I'll definitely buy them because I have been wanting to try painting on leather shoes as well, and I think acrylics wouldn't work.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!
